Before You Burn The Room Down, HALT

Before you send the angry Slack message.

Before you quit the project.

Before you tell yourself your whole career is doomed.

Stop.

Run the four-letter test.

HALT.

Ask yourself:

Am I Hungry?

Am I Angry?

Am I Lonely?

Am I Tired?

Simple.

Almost stupidly simple.

Which is exactly why most smart people skip it.

I see this all the time in my work.

A leader walks into a meeting with a clear point and walks out with a mess.

A founder tries to sound brave and ends up sounding harsh.

A team tries to fix the message, when the real problem is the state they are writing from.

We love dramatic explanations.

We love turning a rough Tuesday into a full identity crisis.

“This company is a mess.”

“My career is over.”

“Nobody respects me.”

“I should burn this whole thing down.”

Meanwhile, your body is sitting there like:

“Mate, you slept four hours, had coffee for lunch, and now you want to write a brave email.”

HALT comes from recovery circles and psychology.

But honestly, half the business world needs it taped above the laptop screen.

Because most bad communication is not evil.

It is depletion.

When your nervous system is fried, your thoughts feel true.

The line gets sharper than you meant.

The reply gets colder than you felt.

The meeting turns into a fight nobody planned.

That is why HALT matters.

It gives you a small gap between the trigger and the damage.

A gap big enough to say what needs to be said.

Without burning the room down.

PS. If you don’t know jewellery, know your jeweller. That’s Buffett’s rule. It’s the same with messaging. Smart ideas die in boring words. If you don’t know the game, find a partner who does, because your reputation is on the line. I help thinkers, rebels, and disruptors say what they mean and make it stick.  Step up. Bring your message. I’ll bring the punch. You’ve got one shot to say it right. I’ll help you take it.
